Seabirds
A loose family of birds that make their living on salt water: gulls and terns, cormorants, pelicans and the divers, which the Americans call loons. City harbours hold more of them than they get credit for.
Cormorants are the ones you see standing with their wings spread out to dry. Their feathers are less waterproof than a duck's, deliberately, so that they can sink and chase fish underwater without fighting their own buoyancy. The cost is that after a dive they are wet through and have to hang themselves out.
