Flies
Two wings only, which is what separates a fly from every other insect, and behind them a pair of tiny knobbed stalks that beat in time and work as gyroscopes. The hoverflies are the ones that look like bees and wasps and are not; the robber flies are the ones that look like nothing else and hunt on the wing.
A hoverfly's disguise is close enough to fool a bird, but it can be told from a wasp by the way it flies: it hangs motionless in the air, then moves sideways in a straight line, which no wasp can do. The stripes cost it nothing. It has no sting at all.
