Other songbirds
The songbirds that do not yet have enough company on this site to earn a family of their own: waxwings, kinglets, vireos, buntings, wagtails and the like. As more turn up, they move out into families of their own.
The Cedar Waxwing is named for the small red tips on its secondary wing feathers, which look like drops of sealing wax and are exactly that colour. They are made of pigment from the berries the bird eats, and the number of them tells other waxwings how old and how well-fed it is.
