Pale blue-white petals each carrying a single darker stripe down the centre, a small early bulb from the Caucasus and northern Iran, planted here in the kind of drift that makes its individually modest flowers add up to something.
It is named for Count Apollos Mussin-Pushkin, a Russian chemist who collected it in the Caucasus in 1802, and it flowers in the week the snow goes.
