Fungi
Not plants at all, and in fact closer to animals: a fungus does not make its own food but digests what is around it, which is why the forest floor is not several metres deep in dead leaves.
The mushroom is not the fungus. It is the fruit, put up for a few days to shed spores, and the organism itself is a web of threads through the wood or the soil that can be decades old and cover an area far larger than the cap suggests.
