Common Chaffinch, Canary Islands form

A Common Chaffinch in the pine forest of Tenerife, not the Blue Chaffinch it was first written up as. This is the Canary Islands form, darker and bluer on the head and back than a European chaffinch and treated by some authorities as a species in its own right; it shares the laurel and pine forests with the Blue Chaffinch and is far the commoner of the two.
The orange-pink face and breast and the bold white bars across the wing give it away, where a Blue Chaffinch is slate-blue all over with only faint wing bars. Same size, same shape, and a completely different bird.
