Yellow petals with a maroon eye at the base of each, close enough in size and placement to read as a single dark ring around the disc from any distance.
A native North American annual, and an obliging garden plant for exactly that reason. The Latin name means bug-like, for the seeds, which look like small ticks, and the plant was used by the Plains nations to dye cloth red and yellow.
