Yellow-collared Scape Moth

A Yellow-collared Scape Moth in the wet meadow at Arverne, a day-flying moth of marsh edges and damp grassland across the East, where the caterpillars feed on grasses and sedges through the summer.
A moth built to be mistaken for a wasp: the narrow dark wings, the orange collar standing in for a wasp's constricted waist, even the way it holds its wings flat rather than tented. The feathered antennae give away the real identity and, on this individual, the sex; only males have antennae this broadly combed.
