A fully double calendula, ranks of petals shading from cream at the tips to solid orange toward the centre.
An old cottage-garden and kitchen-garden plant both, historically used to colour butter and broths as much as to look at. The Latin name is from calends, the first day of the month, because it can be found in flower in almost any month of the year.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
