Clipper

A Clipper in the butterfly house at Fairchild, a Southeast Asian species of forest and river edge from India to New Guinea, where it is a strong, fast glider along the streams.

The pale blue-white panels on a near-black ground give it a stained-glass look that is fairly distinctive among butterfly-house residents. Named for a sailing ship rather than for cutting anything, and it comes in several regional colour forms from blue-green to brown. This one is the pale blue form of the Philippines.

Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
