Reptiles & amphibians
The cold-blooded ones: alligators, lizards, turtles and snakes, and the frogs and salamanders, which are amphibians and go back further still. In a city park nearly every turtle on the lake is a released pet or its descendant, and in Florida a good many of the lizards are recent arrivals too.
An alligator's sex is decided not by its genes but by the temperature of the nest. Eggs kept at around thirty-three degrees produce males; cooler than thirty, females; in between, some of each. A warming climate is, for a crocodilian, a rather direct problem.
