Insects

Spiders

Not insects: eight legs, two body parts rather than three, and no wings or antennae. The orb-weavers build the classic wheel-shaped web; the crab spiders build nothing and wait inside a flower for a bee to land, some of them changing colour over a few days to match the petals.

An orb-weaver often takes its web down each morning and eats it, silk and all, then spins a new one in the evening. The protein is recycled: a spider can rebuild a web from a web it ate the day before, and the whole thing takes it under an hour.

Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
