Millipedes & centipedes
The difference is worth knowing. A millipede has two pairs of legs on most segments and eats rotting leaves; it is slow, harmless and rolls up when bothered. A centipede has one pair per segment, runs, and bites.
No millipede has a thousand legs, or did not until 2021, when one was found deep in the ground in Western Australia with one thousand three hundred and six. The big North American ones have a few hundred, which is plenty to watch go by.
