Pigeons & doves
The same family as the city pigeon, and the same shape underneath: a small head, a plump body and a fast, direct flight. Some of its members are among the rarest birds in the world, confined to a single island's forest.
Pigeons feed their young on milk. Both parents produce it, a secretion from the lining of the crop, rich in fat and protein, and the squabs live on nothing else for the first days. Flamingos and male Emperor Penguins are the only other birds that do anything like it.
