Zinnia, going over
Zinnia elegans
Zinnia · Brooklyn Botanic Garden · 29 May 2025

Past its best - the pink-and-cream ray petals still bright, but the central disc already dried and curling, with a few stray yellow florets left unfurling at odd angles. Not every photograph from a garden has to catch a flower at its peak.
The five-pointed yellow stars at the centre are the disc florets of a zinnia, which is what this most likely is - early for one, but bedding plants go in with the flowers already open.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
