Yarrow among the peonies
Achillea sp.
Yarrow · Goodnestone · 1 June 2024

Golden yarrow in front of a stand of pink and white peonies out of focus behind - the kind of pairing a mixed border produces on its own once enough is in flower at once. The flat yarrow heads are landing pads, built for hoverflies and small bees that cannot manage a peony; the two plants are drawing entirely different visitors a foot apart.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
