Flat-topped heads built from hundreds of tiny flowers, golden yellow rather than the white of the wild roadside yarrow - a garden Achillea, probably one of the 'Coronation Gold' type crosses bred for exactly this colour and this much flower.
The Latin name is Achilles, who is supposed to have used the plant to stop his soldiers' wounds bleeding. It does have a mild effect of that kind, and it was in the field kits of most European armies into the nineteenth century.
