Vineyard oak at dusk

A single standard oak left at the edge of a vineyard row, backlit by a break in heavy evening cloud. The vines are trained on individual stakes rather than a running wire, an older and more labour-intensive method still used for old or low-yielding plots. The oak is the other half of the wine: the barrels are made from French oak, mostly from the state forests of the centre of the country, and a good barrel costs more than most of what it will ever hold.
