Variegated tree, Goodnestone
Cornus controversa 'Variegata'
Wedding Cake Tree · Goodnestone · 1 June 2024

The layered, horizontal branching that earns this tree its common name of wedding-cake tree, each tier picked out in white-margined leaves against the plain green of whatever is growing behind it.
I am reading the cultivar from the variegation and the tiering rather than a full view of the crown, so treat the name as a good guess rather than a certainty. It is a dogwood, from China and Japan, and one of the slowest and most expensive trees in the nursery trade because the variegated form has to be grafted.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
