A path winding through larch and scattered rock beneath a single grey tower, paler and more distant peaks stacked up behind it.
Larch is one of the few conifers that drops its needles for winter, which is why this high ground turns gold rather than staying green come October. It is also the tree the Dolomite huts are built from, because it rots so slowly that a larch shingle roof lasts a century.
