The range on the horizon, forty-odd miles off, with the whole of the Jackson Hole valley between and hazy with August smoke.
The bleached dead conifer in the foreground has been standing long enough to lose its bark entirely. At this altitude a dead tree can stay upright for a century. It is too cold and too dry for the rot that would take it down anywhere lower.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
