Snow still on the San Francisco Peaks in late March, visible from Sedona's overlooks some thirty miles off.
An extinct stratovolcano, the highest point in Arizona, and sacred to several of the region's Indigenous nations independently of one another - to the Hopi it is the winter home of the kachinas, and to the Navajo one of the four mountains that mark the edges of the world.
