The Salzach at Salzburg

The colour is glacial flour: fine rock dust ground out by ice at the river's source in the Alps, fine enough to stay suspended rather than settle. It is what gives an alpine river that particular blue-green nobody quite believes is real until they have seen it.
The cliff is the Mönchsberg, and the church on top is one of several perched along its edge above the old town. Salzburg sits in the gap the river has cut through the ridge, which is the entire reason the city is here.
