The rill, looking toward the church

A long stone-edged pond down the centre of the lawn, young olive trees staked out along its length, and the church tower closing the view. Goodnestone has been in the same family since the 1700s, and Jane Austen, whose brother married into it, stayed and danced here; the walled garden and its borders came later, and the olives and the rill are newer still. Alliums and campion in the border on the left, the tower is Holy Cross, and a garden this size in early June is at its fullest.

Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
