The Long Border, Great Dixter

The house behind its own most famous border: red poppies and roses, a spire of yellow verbascum, and a haze of magenta geranium threaded through all of it.
Christopher Lloyd, and Fergus Garrett after him, ran this border on deliberate excess rather than restraint, packing colour and form against each other in combinations most gardening advice would tell you not to attempt. The house is fifteenth-century with a wing by Lutyens, and Lloyd was born in it and died in it.
