The Herschbach angel, Bonaventure Cemetery

A carved mourning angel over the Herschbach family plot, one of hundreds of Victorian funerary monuments spread through Bonaventure's oak-and-moss grounds.

The cemetery predates the Civil War and became famous well beyond Savannah after John Berendt used one of its statues - the Bird Girl, since moved indoors for its own protection - on the cover of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
