The Patio de la Monteria facade. The band of blue tilework across the top is a dedication, naming Pedro I of Castile as the builder and dating the work to the 1360s.
Pedro built this palace with his own Muslim craftsmen from Seville, Toledo and Granada, working in the style of the Nasrid court he was allied with, decades after Seville had returned to Christian rule. That is why the building is Islamic in every visible respect while never having been part of Al-Andalus. Mudéjar architecture: made by Muslim builders for a Christian king.
