St. John in Ranui

The little onion-domed church of San Giovanni in Ranui, alone in a meadow in the Val di Funes with the Odle massif rising sheer behind it.

One of the most photographed views in the range, and one of the few places where a building this small doesn't get lost against rock this large. The church was built in 1744 by the local lord as a private chapel, and the meadow is still farmed by the family whose fence you have to photograph over.

Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
