Slickrock and pines

Bare sandstone worn smooth enough to walk on without a trail, pines rooted in whatever cracks hold soil.
"Slickrock" is a hiking and biking term rather than a geological one. This pale cross-bedded stone is the Coconino Sandstone, a fossilised dune field, and the same layer is exposed lower down in the Grand Canyon walls a couple of hours north. The cross-bedding is the slope of the dunes, frozen.
