Scotney's garden was one of the earliest in England built specifically to stage a ruin as a picturesque object rather than tidy one away - a fashion that took hold once owners stopped being embarrassed by an old house they had chosen not to live in. Early May is peak rhododendron season here; the sandstone the quarry was cut from is the same stone the old castle is built of.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
