The Gothic spire of the monolithic church rising over honey-coloured rooftops.
The church itself is carved directly out of a single block of limestone, excavated downward from ground level rather than built up, which makes it one of the largest underground churches in Europe even though almost none of that is visible from here. The whole town sits on wine, both economically and literally: much of it is riddled with old quarries that supplied the stone for its own buildings, and the cellars are the quarries.
