Black and white because the forest was one flat green and the snow one flat white, and the only thing worth keeping was the edge between them.
The Olympics are not high by western standards - Mount Olympus stops short of 2,500 metres - but they rise almost straight out of the sea and take the full weight of the Pacific, so they hold snow far later than their height suggests.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
