Red rock at dusk

The pink band above the horizon is the Belt of Venus - sunlight reddened by its long passage through the atmosphere, falling on the sky opposite the sunset. The blue-grey beneath it is the Earth's own shadow rising as the sun drops.
March, so the cottonwoods on the flat are still bare while the junipers and pinyon pines hold their colour. It is the one time of year when the two are easy to tell apart at a distance.
