The sign has been up since 1937 and is one of the oldest working neon signs in the country. Elliott Bay behind, and the low sun doing all the work.
The market beneath it has run continuously since 1907, and was set up for a plain reason: commission merchants had been fixing the price of onions, and the city decided farmers should be able to sell straight to the public.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
