Peafowl at the castle

Castelo de São Jorge keeps a resident flock of peafowl loose in its gardens, and they are as much a fixture of a visit as the ramparts - this hen and her half-grown chicks working through a bed of ornamental fescue for whatever the tourists have dropped. The chicks can fly within a week of hatching, earlier than almost any other bird their size, and roost in the trees with their mother from the start.
