Limestone escarpment

Layered marine limestone, several hundred metres of it, sitting on top of a mountain a long way from any sea. That is the ordinary condition of the Rockies.
The rock formed on a shallow sea floor and was later shoved up and eastwards along thrust faults, arriving more or less intact. The bedding planes running along the cliff are the original sea floor, tilted but otherwise undisturbed. Black and white because the whole face was one shade of pale grey-brown and the interest was entirely in the layering.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
