Laurel forest path

Laurisilva, a forest type that covered much of southern Europe and North Africa in a wetter, warmer geological past and now survives only in a handful of pockets in the Canary Islands, Madeira and the Azores. It is kept alive here by the near-constant trade-wind cloud that Anaga's ridges comb out of the air.
Every trunk and branch is furred with moss and old man's beard lichen, a sign of just how much moisture the forest holds even between rains. The trees drip on a dry day, and the islanders once collected the water off the leaves.
