Ice, close
Minnewaska · 3 April 2021

Early April, and a pond still holding a skin of ice thin enough that the wind and the freeze-thaw cycle have carved it into these trailing, root-like lines rather than a flat sheet.
The dark shape caught in the middle is a leaf, frozen in place from whenever it fell. The ice records the last few days of movement on the surface the way tree rings record years.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
