Harebell

The same plant as the Scottish bluebell, which is startling to come across on a Wyoming scree slope. It runs right round the northern hemisphere and is one of the few flowers a British walker can meet in the Rockies and name without a book.
The species name means round-leaved and refers to leaves you will not see here. The basal rosette is round; it usually withers before the flowers open, leaving only the narrow stem leaves.
