Golden Eagle, probably, over the ridge

A large raptor riding the air rising off a cliff face in the Dolomites, hikers picking their way along the exposed ridge below it. Golden Eagles nest on cliffs exactly like this one throughout the Alps, hunting marmots and hares on the high pastures, and this is their country.

Long wings held in a shallow bow with the tips well fingered, a tail long enough to show clearly behind them and a head that projects forward of the wings: the outline of a Golden Eagle rather than a vulture, which would be shorter-tailed and broader across the wing. At this distance and against open sky that is a silhouette judgement rather than a certain one.

Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
