Framed by a ponderosa
Sedona · 20 March 2025

A ponderosa pine at the edge of the overlook doing the work a frame does in a gallery: the red buttes behind would read as more landscape without something in front to start the eye. Ponderosa bark is the tree's best trick - put your nose into a crack on a warm day and it smells of vanilla, or butterscotch depending on who you ask, and the plates of orange bark flake off like jigsaw pieces.
