Eurasian Jay in flight

A Jay in fast, blurred flight across a vineyard edge outside Bordeaux, a bird of oak woodland across Europe and Asia, and of any wood with acorns in it.

The flash of electric blue barred feathers on the wing coverts is the giveaway even in a shot like this one. A corvid, and one with an excellent memory for its own buried acorn caches, which makes it one of the more effective unwitting tree-planters in a European woodland - the oak came north after the ice age at the speed of the jay.

Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
