One of the small, plain, olive-and-white Empidonax flycatchers, in Prospect Park at the end of May on its way north. Willow, Alder, Least and Acadian Flycatchers all pass through Brooklyn on migration in numbers, and all four breed within a day's drive.
A genus notorious among birders for being essentially impossible to identify to species from appearance alone. The four overlap broadly in plumage and are reliably told apart mainly by voice; this bird never called. Left at genus rather than guessing a species that a photograph genuinely can't support.
