A single fringed pink flower opening from a cluster of dark maroon buds still tightly furled.
The ragged, cut edge to each petal is the family's signature and the source of the common name pink, which predates and has nothing to do with the colour. The colour was named after the flower, not the other way round - and pinking shears, which cut the same zigzag, are named for the flower too.
