Diablo Lake
North Cascades · 19 June 2021

Diablo Lake, on State Route 20 through the North Cascades. The colour is glacial flour: fine rock powder ground out by the glaciers still sitting on the peaks behind and carried down into the reservoir, where it stays suspended and scatters the light back turquoise.
The road below is the North Cascades Highway itself, closed by snow most winters and one of the more dramatic drives in the country when it is open.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
