Deep in the color

Trunks going dark as the light drops, the canopy still carrying the last of the day's warmth in red and gold - a denser, more tangled view than the trail, closer to what the woods look like off the path. The Poconos are not mountains but a plateau, and the forest on top of it is second growth to a tree: the whole region was cut over for lumber and hemlock bark by 1900, and what stands now is a century old at most.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
