Looking straight down the throat of a daylily at the six stamens and the single style that outreaches them, all still carrying the morning's pollen.
Each flower opens for one day only, which is the entire reason for the name. The plant keeps going by opening a new one every morning for weeks, and in China the buds are a vegetable, sold dried as golden needles.
