A slim, pale damselfly caught mid-flight above a stem in the August border, wings blurred, lifting off a perch and settling a foot away. The pond damselflies breed in the garden's ponds and hunt the borders around them, and they fly weakly compared with dragonflies and rarely go far.
Not enough of the abdomen tip or the thorax pattern in view to call a genus with any confidence, let alone a species - the pale blue bands along the abdomen suggest one of the bluets, but that is as far as it goes.
