Cycling the lake path

Prospect Park Lake through a gap in the canopy, the path along its edge carpeted in what this maple has already dropped while the tree behind it is still mostly green - two trees on entirely different schedules on the same October morning. The lake is artificial, dug in the 1860s by Olmsted and Vaux and filled from the city's water mains, and the maples were planted to a plan that was thinking about exactly this month.

Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
