Creek in the gorge, in autumn light
Poconos · 20 October 2024

A creek in the gorge in late October, the trunks close to the lens and the light coming through low enough to turn the water the colour of the leaves it is reflecting rather than its own. The yellow is mostly beech and birch; the rhododendron along the bank stays dark green all year. The Poconos are a plateau rather than a mountain range, and the gorges cut into them are where the trees, the water and the rock all come together in one frame.
Birds, insects, plants and other wildlife, mostly from Brooklyn, with some from further afield.
